VivaPop All-American Soap Box Derby

The VivaPop All American Soap Box Derby presented by Miller Motorcars to benefit the United Way of Greenwich has generated tremendous interest within the Greenwich community which in turn has given great exposure for sponsoring companies, the United Way of Greenwich and its agencies.

Corporate sponsors and individuals are paying for the twenty-four Super Stock cars in the co-ed Superstock division. The Super Stock division is designed for racers age 10-17 years old. Super Stock cars can accommodate a larger racer up to (approximately) 6'0" tall and 150 pounds.

SOAP BOX CAR RACE SUNDAY SEPTEMBER 14, 2008

GREENWICH AVENUE (from Starbuck's to Richard's). RAIN OR SHINE.

All Drivers must be on Greenwich Avenue (Starbucks) by 7:00am, Sunday September 14th.

First Heat Starts Promptly at 8AM.

Opening Ceremony Commences at 9AM.

Soap box cars will race from 8AM to 12PM. This is an elimination event. Each child will go down hill at least two times.

No United Way agency will have to pay for a car. The Super Stock cars will be donated to the 24 United Way Agencies who will be competing as teams against against each other for the top prizes. The races will be held in advance of United Way's Septemberfest, rain or shine, on Greenwich Avenue just like they did in the 1960's and 1980's.

Greenwich Country Day School - The Schwarz Estate Driveway

For both safety and insurance purposes, it is very important that all drivers attend at least two out of the three practice races. With 24 cars and 24 drivers, we want to do everything possible to ensure that each driver gets several opportunities for practice runs. At the practice race sessions, each driver will be weighed so that the cars can be appropriately fitted with weights to ensure that cars and drivers all equal the same weight. Finally, at the practice races, we will photograph each driver and car.

Directions to The Schwarz Estate - Turn right off Old Church Road onto Fairfield Road - Park in the Maintenance Parking Lot on the main Greenwich Country Day School Campus which is across the street from the Schwarz Estate Driveway. Police will be available to assist with road crossings.
